Session 136

2026-10-23 · 2026-W43 ✓ reviewed

What happened

Friday quiz + fix-code block, 13:04–~13:27, ended early (parent allowed). 1) Finished the running-total trace carried from 19 Oct: inputs 7,3,0, handwritten table x|total|OUTPUT, before-loop row present, total 0→7→10, OUTPUT 10 — correct in 4 min except x written as 0 on the first row; on one question she said the cell should be empty. 2) Why hex: taught the fact as one sentence; she said it back from memory with fact first then so-what (2/2 shape, prompted, same session — not a cold retrieval). 3) Binary→decimal 10110101: chose the right place values (128,32,16,4,1) with adding line, but summed to 175; on the prompt to add again gave 181. 4) Decimal→binary 166: after one step prompt (she echoed instructions first), wrote 'does it fit' working for every column, 10100110 correct. Check line (add the 1s back) not done. Store-vs-print task not reached.

Planned next

Open with the 166 check line (add 128+32+4+2 back to 166) — 1 minute. Then the store-vs-print program task (P03 loose end: brief names an output variable to store in, not print). Ask the why-hex answer cold, no sentence shown first. Binary→decimal: one with 5+ ones, adding as a running total (pairs from the top) written out, then add again as the check. Handwritten unscaffolded WHILE loop still owed by 29 Oct.

Unfinished unfinished

166 → binary check line not written (add the 1-columns back to 166). Store-vs-print program task not started.

Unfinished: 166 → binary check line not written (add the 1-columns back to 166). Store-vs-print program task not started. (D02, P03)

What this session changed

TopicNameChangeEvidence recorded
A07Gap → Gap23 Oct: finished 19 Oct trace (7,3,0 running total) on paper, headings and before-loop row present, OUTPUT 10 correct; only slip x=0 on the first row, fixed when asked what x is before input. Headings were given.
D01Developing → Developing23 Oct: why-hex taught as one sentence ('one hex digit stands for four binary digits, so shorter'); said back from memory, fact then so-what. Prompted in the same session, not a cold check.
D02Developing → Gap23 Oct: 10110101 — right place values, adding line written, summed to 175 (correct 181); fixed on a second add. Third adding-line slip (14 Oct, 21 Oct test 32→34, 23 Oct): demoted per three-wobble rule. Dec→bin 166 correct with working.
