What happened

Finished the language question on the June 2023 seaside source: the two remaining chains written unaided inside the ten-minute clock, the five-word spelling list 5/5 from memory, and a short fairground-story fix at the end. Starter, no notes (3 items): naming the three chain steps failed cold ("i don't know") and was rebuilt from her own 18 Sep chain with two binary prompts (word or what it makes you think of? / about the word or the reader?); the chain on 'clawed' then ran fully unaided ('clawed' → injured → the sea and pier caught in a never-ending battle); spelling list friend/suddenly/happened/laughter/meanwhile 5/5. Timed task: first reply re-used the model quote ('skin disease') as an explanation with no reader step; after one redirect to a different quote, chain 1 'receding hairline' → bald → the reader thinks it looks funny, and chain 2 'mouth is forever open and panting' → tired → the reader wants to look away, both three-step, both unaided, ~L2 each. 'tierd' in chain 2; 'reread done' was asked for twice and not reported; when the reread was set as a single named check ('just looking at the words') she found it ("reread done spelling mistake"). She asked that spelling corrections come with the right spelling and a way to remember it; 'tired' given as tire+d, typed correctly. 'centre' taught (-re like theatre/metre). Spotlight sentence ("You see a spotlight pointing to the middle of the ring.") was already clean; asked for one thing the light lands on she wrote "and there are boxes everywhere but only one is in the spotlight" — one chosen detail, lowercase 'and' opening it. Mint/hide-or-stay branch not reached; block ended on time. Her two lines: "I finished up my sentence. And next, I have Spanish."

Planned next

FIRST: the fairground story — the mint / hide-or-stay branch, teaching one character shown by one chosen detail (W2.2) before she writes it, one paragraph at a time; she fixes the lowercase 'and' sentence herself. Starter, no notes: name the three chain steps cold (second time of asking); one chain on a fresh tutor-written line; spell tired and centre. Fewer than 2 of 3 → re-model before the story. The language question is done on June 2023 — next reading step is the structure question (R3) on the same source, not another Q2. At every spelling slip give the correct spelling plus a memory aid, then retest it in the next starter. Timed description outing due Tue 29 Sep, handwritten, 30 min write.

What this session changed

TopicNameChangeEvidence recorded
R2.1Not started → Not started21 Sep, June 2023 Source A, ten-minute clock: 2/2 remaining chains unaided and three-step (hairline→bald→looks funny; panting→tired→look away), ~L2 each; with Friday's supported chain, 3 chains now on one real source. Starter: chain on 'clawed' ran unaided; the three step names needed two binary prompts. Proposed developing pending adjudication (target band not yet confirmed on the subject row).
T5.2Not started → Not started21 Sep: spelling list friend/suddenly/happened/laughter/meanwhile 5/5 from memory, typed. New slip 'tierd' in a composed chain, not a sound-alike; caught only when the reread was set as a single named check, then 'tired' typed correctly after the spelling and an aid (tire+d) were given.
T1.2Developing → Developing21 Sep, untimed story: the new sentence opened lowercase with 'and' ('and there are boxes everywhere but only one is in the spotlight'). Capital-after-comma habit not tested (typed, no commas).
