First reading-strand session — the whole R strand was untouched. Opened with a 5-question retrieval starter (the 9:00 mixed warm-up showed as missed): 4/5 first pass, 5/5 after one re-ask; identified a comma splice and both fixes, and gave 'name the animal, not animals' as the test for a chosen sense-detail. Taught the Paper 1 question map (Q1 4/5min, Q2 8/10, Q3 8/10, Q4 20/20, Q5 40/45) then the Q2 formula, word to connotation to effect, on two tutor-written lines (no copyrighted source used). Showed the two stored Q2 resources (Seneca 3.1.3, Mr Bruff 2026 Q2 video). Typed, untimed, exit ticket independent.
Q2 on a real source under the 10-minute clock (8 marks) — June 2023 insert with the 2026-format sample paper, or an old-format Q2 (unchanged for 2027). Then R3 Q3 structure. Still open from 9 Sep: the fairground diary branch and W1.2 taught properly (one named ride's sound); fortnightly timed handwritten Q5 outing due, 30 minutes on an unseen AQA prompt.
| Topic | Name | Change | Evidence recorded |
|---|---|---|---|
| R2.1 | Not started → Developing | Full three-step chain unaided first attempt: 'clawed' → pier fighting the waves and losing → reader sees it as alive and failing. Repeated on an unseen exit-ticket line ('twitching' → hoping not to be noticed → reader feels watched), third step after one prompt. A third example ('gnawed') took three prompts to land on 'thin' not 'broken'. | |
| R2.2 | Not started → Not started | Found the effect first and then accepted 'personification' as the label for it, in that order. Spotted unprompted that 'clawed' and 'gnawed' are both animal verbs running through the same line — a pattern across the extract, not a single device. | |
| T5.2 | Not started → Not started | Q2 answers twice became unreadable through word-level slips — 'pier' written as 'pair', 'planks' as 'parents' then 'planics' — so one sentence needed a full rewrite before it made sense. Typed, so not a handwriting issue. |
