P1.02 London (Blake): about/voice/form/methods/quotes/context

Currently Developing · last touched 2026-10-23

What the Church and the Palace each DID: Church came cold 23 Oct; the king/soldiers idea still needs the narrowing. Ask it cold next time with no hint, before any rewrite.

Every change

WhenChangeEvidenceSession
2026-10-23Developing → Developing23 Oct retrieval, cold: who Blake blames - 'the preists and the king' 1/1; what the Church does - 'doesn't see what the king does' (stands by) 1/1; what the king does - generic first, 'orders the soders to war' only after narrowing to the soldier. 2 of 3 clean; what the Palace does still not retrieved cold.session 134
2026-10-22Developing → Developing22 Oct: context cold 2/2 asked alone (soldier's sigh 'tierd out' with no choice - first time; 1794). Fresh lines, no rule: reached 'trapped by belief' and the priests herself. Taught Church/Palace; say-back named both; timed answer named both as the blame but not what each did. Stays developing; a second session with what-each-did inside the answer is the next check.session 131
2026-10-21Developing → Developingpaper #10 Q5 1/3 and Q6 3/4 (both chat answers after close, portal blank) — London: people 'sad and worn out', soldier's sigh read as weariness under the king; institutions as the blame not reached on either questionsession 126
2026-10-16Developing → Developing16 Oct retrieval: first line cold 'I wander thro' each charter'd street' - all right incl. capital I, first fully clean cold run. Charter'd describes street and Thames 1/1. Soldier's sigh feeling: 'annoyed' first, 'fed up' only from a two-way choice - retry. Stays developing.session 113
2026-10-15Developing → Developing15 Oct: context cold after 2 days, asked alone: 1794 1/1, 'the priests and the king' 1/1, each inside a minute. Pick-a-word 2/2 (weakness = given up), rule stated first. Unaided why-sentences, open form, cue beneath, no narrowing: palace walls (king sending soldiers to die) and black church (corruption) 2/2 on target, 5 and 3 min on 2-min limits, no invented detail; the sigh question first drew a reason not in the poem, 'worn out' after one narrowing. Stays developing.session 109
2026-10-14Developing → Developingpaper #9 Q9: 1/2, loss=technique — reading of the people right (downcast and sad); no word or phrase from the printed lines referred to although the question asked; 1 minsession 105
2026-10-13Developing → Developing13 Oct: context taught / confirmed / apply below the bar. First line cold exact, capital I, 1/1. Guide open, 3/3: 1794; 'Blake blames the suffering in London on the prites and king'; black'ning church (l.10), blood down palace walls (l.12). Book closed 2/2 (year only when re-asked alone). Unaided why-sentences 0/2 on target: palace walls with an invented detail; church answered as 'the king body'; each right after one narrow question.session 100
2026-10-08Developing → DevelopingSession 86, 8 Oct: starter cold: 'i wander thro' each charter'd street' - wander, thro', charter'd and street all right (thro' was 'tho'' on 6 Oct); lower-case i, as on 29 Sep and 6 Oct. 1 slip in the line. Rhyme pattern and its effect not asked. Context still not taught (owed since 29 Sep).standalone
2026-10-06Developing → DevelopingStarter cold: 'i wander tho' each charter'd street' - wander, charter'd and street right (wander right on two starters running); 'tho'' for thro' (right on 28 Sep and 1 Oct) and a lower-case i. ABAB given as a fact at once. Effect of the pattern only from a two-way choice ('trapped'). Context still not taught.session 76
2026-10-01Developing → DevelopingStarter cold: first line with wander, thro' and charter'd all correct (wander wrong three times before), 'streat' for street; rhyme pattern ABAB given as a fact at once (not known 29 Sep). 2/2 on the loose-end items. Effect of the pattern on the open form: 'It makes the peom feel more powerful' - generic.session 62
2026-09-29Developing → DevelopingStarter cold: first line 'i wonder thro' each cherter'd street' (wonder for wander, cherter'd; thro' and street right); 'Marks of weakness, marks of woe' exact; stanza count blank then '4' after a picture-the-page scaffold, rhyme pattern not known; effect after the fact on the open form: 'so London feels uniform like rows of prison cells'. Recall of the marks line holds; the first line still slips on wander.session 57
2026-09-28Developing → DevelopingRecall run in the placement (test #4 Q2): both quotations recognisable from memory ('i walk tho' each charter'd street', 'Marks of weakness, marks of woe' exact) — 2/2 for recall, 0/4 for explanation. Starter: thro', the marks line and charter'd x2 all correct cold. Structure fact not named (theme only) in the paper; 'marriage hearse' ending reached 'hopeless' only after two narrowings. Recall holds; explanation and structure do not appear unaided.session 50
2026-09-24Gap → DevelopingExit ticket passed unaided with book closed. 'Blake keeps repeating every so the reader will think that everything and everyone is being controlled' is a structural effect named at Level 3 (explained, method identified). The charter'd street/Thames point was reached with support and developed ('could not escape'). This follows two earlier supported Level 3 instances. Starter line: 'tho'' for thro'.session 44
2026-09-22Gap → GapStarter: 'I wander thro' each charter'd street' with thro' and charter'd correct but 'wonder' for 'wander'; retyped correctly. Blake's full line now inside draft 5 of the comparison paragraph; charter'd read as king owning the street held. Level 3 still, supported.session 39
2026-09-21Gap → GapLondon used in a comparison paragraph, supported (shape given, one general steer, one fault list): charter'd read as the king owning the street, reached after one narrowing ('controlled and broken' -> 'owned by the king'). Full London quotation never made it into the paragraph over three asks. Level 3 evidence again ('explained comments, identification of writer's methods with some reference to purpose'). Exit ticket not run.session 35
2026-09-17Developing → Gapaudit: session 30 (17 Sep) moved P1.02 notstarted → developing in one session — a two-level rise, not permitted from a single session. Reverted to gap. The session's developing-level evidence (supported paragraph, exit ticket 2/2) stands toward promotion once repeated per the normal bar.standalone
2026-09-17Not started → DevelopingFirst written paragraph on London, supported (plan built with tutor, one general steer): one angle, one quotation intact, Blake as subject, 'why' present. Level 3 descriptor matched: 'explained, structured comments; references used to support a range of relevant comments; identification of writer's methods with some reference to purpose'. Exit ticket 2/2 (first line unaided; structural fact after one narrowing). Starter quotation 0/1.session 30
2026-09-16Not started → Not startedFirst session on London: listened to the recording and read aloud once (self-reported), one-sentence summary reached after one narrowing (people not streets), 4/4 figures named from the book, 'they are all young' unaided, Church and Palace found in stanza 3, summary rebuilt correctly. No paragraph, no exit ticket — below the developing bar.session 28
2026-09-15Not started → Not startedFirst teaching, 20 min: read twice, summary ('he walks around a london street'), see/hear answered on the open question with 'marks of weakness' accurate; charter'd = crown ownership even of the river (her reading); mind-forg'd manacles = 'trapped in their mind and they could actually be free' unaided; 'every' x5 as universal suffering after narrowing. Quotation chosen and written accurately. No paragraph, no context, no form point yet.session 25

Placement — English Literature (unseen poem + recall) — GCSE English Literature sectionexam-skills #422/8Part 1: 'i walk tho' each charter'd street' recognisable (walk for wander, tho' for thro'; charter'd right) 1/1, no explanation 0/2. 'Marks of weakness, marks of woe' exact 1/1, no explanation 0/2. Part 2: 'structure shows all of London is under control' — no form/structure fact named, theme only, 0/2. Branching Story project — stimulus policy
Approved by parent 9 Sep 2026. K-strand skills (K1 what-how-why, K3 methods/structure to effect, K5 writer as subject) may be taught first on Paige's own choose-your-own-path story, then transferred to a set text IN THE SAME SESSION. The transfer is not optional. Nothing in S/N/M/P strands is replaced: set texts, the Power and Conflict poems and all timed essays are unchanged. Set-text knowledge time is ring-fenced.

Branching Story — day brief M4 (9 Sep 2026)
Module 4 of the self-paced day. Part A: one what-how-why paragraph about her OWN structural choice, written in the third person ('the writer places the shift at X in order to Y') - one idea developed, not a list (K1, K5). Part B: same sentence shape on Ozymandias, whose nested voices mirror a branching structure, closing the outstanding Shelley 1818 / hostility-to-tyranny context as a clause (P1.01). K3.2 still needs a NEW poem and is not covered here.
